最近兩周林書豪(Jeremy Lin)可謂是不折不扣的媒體大紅人(lin-sensational)，一夜之間他從一個默默無聞的(underdog)華裔NBA球員變成紐約Madison Square Garden的主人。他有多“牛”( lin-sanity)相信同學們都已知道，但是今天讓我們換個角度來看“林瘋狂 --Linsanity”！
教學雅思口語這些年被學生們問到過最多的問題就是 --- 怎樣才能在口語考試中有效使用高分的詞匯，從而提高自己的分數？但實際情況卻是背過練習過的好詞好句到了考場上完全想不起來。那么為什么會有這樣的情況呢？今天我就嘗試用這兩周國外各大媒體對“linsanity”的報道來解答這個困擾考生們的問題。
口語學習誤區一：口語就是把中文思維翻譯成英語！---translation works？
真的是這樣嗎？我們不妨一起來做幾個翻譯練習，看看你的英語用詞native speaker的有什么不同。
練習1：媒體采訪林書豪，說奧巴馬(Obama)總統也是你的粉絲了，你對這么多人喜歡你有什么感想。林書豪說他很榮欣，愧不敢當，感覺有些受寵若驚。你會怎么用英語表達呢？思考3秒鐘，來看一下Jeremy Lin(林書豪)的原話。
l Lin said he was“very honored and very humbled”to hear it.“I mean, wow， the president，”he said.“Nothing better than that.”And I’m a little overwhelmed right now，”Lin said with a smile.---CBS的報導，你會想到用humbled (愧不敢當)和overwhelmed(受寵若驚的)這兩個單詞嗎？
練習2：媒體采訪科比(Kobe Bryant湖人隊著名球星)，問他對林書豪的看法，Kobe說林書豪的成功是林堅持不懈和努力的結果，你會怎么用英語表達呢？思考3秒鐘，來看一下Kobe 的原話。
l“It’s a testament to perseverance and hard work and I think a good example for kids everywhere。”Bryant said.----ESPN的報導，你會想到用testament(見證)這個單詞嗎？
練習3：媒體賽后采訪德安東尼(D’Antoni–紐約尼克斯的教練)，問他對林書豪場上表現的評價，德安東尼說林有組織后衛的頭腦，你會怎么用英語表達呢？思考3秒鐘，來看一下D’Antoni的原話。

Tips: 雖然先想中文再翻譯成英語的習慣很難避免，但我們應該盡可能從英語原文的聽力中學習地道的口語詞匯，這才是更有效的學習詞匯的方法。要了解更多同學們可以去網上看一下descriptive 和 prescriptive 這兩種英語學習的方法，Jason老師覺得前者更重要。
口語學習誤區二：用詞越難越好！---beefing up the sentence？
最近，有位學生和我說他迷上了美劇“生活大爆炸”(the big bang theory)，因為他覺得里面三個主人公的英語口語詞匯超牛，有很多他以前背過的“BIG WORDS”，他希望自己的英語口語可以和他們說的一樣。
這樣真的合適嗎？和這部美劇里的主人公一樣，林書豪也是名校畢業的“nerd (書呆子)”但他的口語詞匯非但不難，簡直就是小學詞匯，我們先來看一段林書豪的答記者問。

Tips:口語詞匯最關鍵的是地道自然，不要為了難而難，否則影響考官理解，反而得不償失。其實“生活大爆炸”(the big bang theory)中的三個人并非“正常人”，誠然他們的口語是高分的，但并不適合我們同學去模仿，林書豪的口語才是我們應該參考并且可以達到的模板。
